Kitchen Deep Cleaning Checklist for Busy Melbourne Homes
The kitchen is one of the hardest-working areas in your home – and also the easiest place for grease, dust, and clutter to quietly build up.
With the right structure and a simple plan, deep cleaning doesn’t have to feel overwhelming or take an entire day.
This guide is divided into two parts:
- Part 1 – A practical kitchen deep cleaning checklist you can follow at home
- Part 2 – How our Cleaning Planner method keeps your kitchen clean all year round without extra cleaning hours
Part 1 – Kitchen Deep Cleaning Checklist
These tasks are grouped by frequency to help you stay on top of both the daily mess and long-term build-up.

Weekly Tasks – Your Essential Kitchen Routine
Weekly cleaning prevents grease, crumbs, and bacteria from becoming a bigger problem later.
- Wipe down benchtops and splashbacks
- Clean the stovetop surface
- Empty and clean the sink
- Lightly wipe kitchen tiles, door handles, and commonly touched areas
- Quick vacuum and mop around the kitchen zone
Fortnightly Tasks – Hidden Spots That Make a Big Difference
These areas are easily forgotten but have a big impact on how fresh and tidy your kitchen feels.
- Clean the inside of the microwave
- Wipe the exterior of the fridge
- Degrease cabinet doors, especially near the cooktop
- Wipe the outside of the rangehood
- Clean around the toaster, kettle, and other small appliances
Monthly Deep Cleaning Tasks
Monthly tasks help prevent stubborn buildup and keep your kitchen surfaces in good condition.
- Deep clean 1–2 kitchen cabinets or drawers (remove items, wipe inside, and reorganise)
- Wipe fridge seals and door edges
- Light clean of the inside of the oven door
- Scrub and polish the sink and tapware
- Clean rangehood filters if they are lightly to moderately greasy
Quarterly Tasks – Restore the “Like-New” Feeling
Every three months, it’s worth spending a little extra time to refresh the kitchen more deeply.
- Rotate through all cabinet interiors for a full clean
- Empty and wipe pantry shelves, checking expiry dates as you go
- Deep clean the inside of the fridge
- Do a more thorough oven clean, including trays and racks
- Clean cooktop rings, drip pans, and other removable parts
- Dust and clean light fittings and vents in the kitchen
Seasonal Cleaning – Twice a Year Reset
Seasonal cleaning is ideal before winter, summer, or when you know guests and family gatherings are coming.
- Deep clean tiles and grout on splashbacks and kitchen floors
- Clean behind and under the fridge (if it’s safe to move)
- Thoroughly degrease heavy-use rangehood filters
- Clean or wipe down ceiling corners and higher areas that collect dust
- Review and declutter your pantry, drawers, and bench space
Part 2 – How Our Cleaning Planner Method Keeps Your Kitchen Deep Cleaned All Year
For many families, doing everything in this checklist at once can take three to five hours – which is not always realistic.
That’s why, at My VIP Cleaning Service, we created our Cleaning Planner method.
Instead of trying to “do everything in one big day”, our Cleaning Planner focuses on:
- Keeping your weekly basics consistent, so the kitchen never feels out of control
- Adding one manageable deep cleaning task into each visit
- Adjusting tasks based on the real condition of your home that week
- Completing an entire round of deep cleaning tasks over a set period, without adding extra hours
1. Weekly Basics Come First
In every visit, we make sure the core areas are taken care of:
- Benchtops and splashbacks
- Stovetop surface
- Sink and tapware
- High-touch areas like handles and switches
- Kitchen floors – vacuum and mop
These are non-negotiables. They keep your kitchen feeling fresh and usable every day.
2. Then We Add One Deep Cleaning Task Each Visit
The secret of the Cleaning Planner system is that we don’t try to deep clean everything at once.
Instead, we break the deep tasks into small, realistic pieces, such as:
- Cleaning the inside of 1–2 cabinets or drawers
- Detailing a section of the fridge interior
- Wiping and degreasing the rangehood exterior
- Cleaning the microwave inside and out
- Detailing a small area of the pantry
Over several weeks, your entire kitchen is deep cleaned, without needing extra booked time.
3. We Adjust the Plan Based on Real Life
Real homes are not always “perfectly ready” for a plan – and that’s exactly why you hire a Cleaning Planner instead of a standard cleaner.
Here are some examples of how we adapt:
- After a birthday party or big gathering:
The kitchen may be extra greasy or cluttered. In this case, we use most of the visit to restore the basics – benchtops, dishes, floors, and surfaces – and we may delay the scheduled deep task to the following visit. - When the kitchen hasn’t been used much:
If the kitchen is already quite clean (for example, a busy week eating out), we can complete a bigger deep cleaning task, like a whole section of cabinets. - When a deep task is larger than expected:
If we open a cabinet or fridge and see heavier build-up than planned, we may split it into two visits, so we maintain quality without rushing.
4. The Result: A Kitchen That Stays Clean, Not Just “Gets Cleaned”
With this approach, deep cleaning becomes part of your regular service – not a separate, stressful event.
Instead of waiting until everything feels out of control and then booking a massive one-off deep clean, your kitchen:
- Stays consistently organised
- Builds up far less grease and grime
- Feels “ready to cook” at any time
- Looks better for guests and family without extra effort from you
FAQ – How the Cleaning Planner Works in Real Life
“What if my kitchen is extra messy after a party?”
In that visit, we will prioritise bringing the space back under control – dishes, benchtops, floors, and visible surfaces.
The planned deep task will be moved to the next visit. Your peace of mind and a safe, hygienic kitchen always come first.
“Will deep cleaning tasks be forgotten if they are delayed?”
No. Deep cleaning tasks are part of a cycle. If something needs to be postponed due to extra mess or special requests,
it is simply moved to the next available visit and completed then.
“Do I need to book extra hours for deep cleaning?”
With our Cleaning Planner service, the goal is to complete deep cleaning gradually within your existing time, wherever possible.
In some extreme cases (for example, if there has been no proper cleaning for a very long time), we may suggest an initial one-off deep clean to “reset” the home.
After that, the Planner structure can maintain it.
“What if I’m at home and want to change the plan on the day?”
That’s okay. Our Cleaning Planner will always communicate with you, explain what was planned for that visit, and then help you choose what’s most important for that day –
whether it’s restoring order after a busy week, or moving ahead with a deep task.
Ready to Have a Kitchen That Feels Clean All the Time?
You can absolutely use this checklist to deep clean your kitchen on your own.
But if you prefer a structured, long-term approach where someone else plans and prioritises everything for you, our Cleaning Planner service may be a better fit.
With a Cleaning Planner, you’re not just booking “a cleaner” – you’re partnering with someone who:
- Understands how your family uses the kitchen
- Plans deep cleaning tasks into your regular visits
- Adapts to real-life changes, parties, and busy weeks
- Helps your home get cleaner and more organised over time
